The world is made from the magic the old gods left behind. For eras it has been just us, the power pulsing through the land like the heartbeats of all who call it home. Wars fought, legends forgotten, kingdoms rising and falling like the tides and the time.
But the leylines are deteriorating. Cursed with an unknown blight, the runes holding the map together began to fester with beasts and storms of shadows unseen in current memory. But the people, divided by the new Emperor, seem to have bigger problems than the sickened earth. His laws- declared only five decades after some forgotten power established the only world we know- have stripped an entire population of their humanity.
Everything was set in stone; a downward spiral into the end of another era, until a young scribe of the Empire is sent to find the secrets of a legendary superweapon. Instead, he finds a strange, anxious boy determined to keep to himself.
What will happen if the two decide to stick together?
